Evidence methodology
The method separates company location, ownership, design, final assembly and manufacturing origin. Only the manufacturing or capability step supported by a source receives a status.
01 Scope
Each edition asks whether Europe has demonstrated capability across a representative product architecture. It does not map one serial-numbered product or every supplier in the market.
EU-27 is the core geography. Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein are EEA partners. Switzerland, the United Kingdom and other European countries are labelled separately.
02 Status
- EU step evidenced
- The displayed manufacturing or capability step is evidenced inside the EU-27. Upstream inputs may still come from elsewhere.
- Partner step
- The step is evidenced in a named European geography outside the EU-27.
- Mixed
- European production exists, but an important origin is external, variable or undisclosed.
- External
- The evidenced step is outside Europe, or sufficient European capability has not been demonstrated.
Status text always accompanies colour and pattern. A classification applies only to the displayed claim.
03 Claims
Every component record contains a stage, entity, manufacturing or capability location, geographic tier, status, claim, confidence, source identifiers and verification date. The complete structured record is available in the Edition 01 data file.
Evidence order
- Official statistics, regulators and public institutions.
- Factory-level company disclosures, certifications and technical documents.
- Industry associations with disclosed methods.
- Reputable reporting for context or research leads.
A company product page can support a stated manufacturing location. It cannot establish the origin of undisclosed subcomponents.
04 Sources
Eurostat PRODCOM records production by product and reporting country. Confidentiality rules mean that a missing country figure is not proof that production is absent.
JRC technology profiles and JRC material-system analyses provide technology and material-flow context. Trade data is not production data. Company revenue is not factory output.
Sources are fixed snapshots, not live API data. Each claim displays its verification date.
05 Confidence
High means an authoritative or factory-level source states the location and capability directly. Medium means capability is evidenced but product fit, scale or part-specific origin is incomplete. Low is reserved for leads and does not support a conclusion without qualification.
Confidence applies to the displayed claim. It is not a rating of the company, labour conditions or environmental performance.
06 Verdicts
No numeric sovereignty score is calculated. Components differ too much in substitutability and system importance for one total to be meaningful.
- Yes: a complete chain is demonstrated without unresolved concentrated external dependence.
- Yes, but: Europe can build the product, but hard-to-substitute external dependencies remain.
- Not yet: one or more essential production stages lack demonstrated European capability.
07 Corrections
Email geteverything.eu@aiheroes.io with the node name, proposed correction, source and factory location where available.
Material corrections update the verification date and remain visible in repository history. Promotional claims without a manufacturing location are insufficient.
